Mah Jongg Rules! Did you know from Modern Mahjong

Did you know there is a rule regarding returning tiles back to the sloping part of your rack when a hand is dead? If so, do you know when this applies?


We cannot emphasize enough the importance of reading the front and back of the annual National Mah Jongg League Card. Both the front NOTES and parentheses are important to read.

Additionally, while all the rules can't fit on the back of the card, it is important to take the time to read it all! For the entire rules, the NMJL publishes Mah Jongg Made Easy and updates it every few years.


There is A LOT of information contained in a small space on the card so we thought this review would be appreciated. Let us know if this overview is helpful and we will continue with additional videos going over the back of the card!

$2.50 from each card purchased through us will be donated to the Alzheimer's Association. From pre-orders of the 2020 and 2021 NMJL Cards, we have raised over $8,500 for the Alzheimer's Association.


You can pre-order your card by visiting ModernMahjong.com and/or completing the Pre-Order Form (bit.ly/PreOrder2022NMJLCard) and returning it with your check. You can also reply to this email for Zelle or Venmo information. As a convenience, if you wish to pay by credit card, click here for more details on pre-ordering. If you wish to pay by credit card, there is a 50 cent charge to offset credit card processing fees.


There is no fee if you pay by check, Zelle or Venmo. The NMJL has kept the price of the cards at $9 for the standard size card and $10 for the larger card. We provide this as a service to raise funds for the Alzheimer's Association and do not make any profit from the sale of the cards.


Cards are mailed DIRECTLY to you from the NMJL at the end of March/April 2022.


Each player that provides an individual name and address will receive the annual NMJL bulletin when placing their pre-order through us.
