New satellite images reveal that China has built four villages in Bhutan in the last year. The images show multiple new villages spread through an area of roughly 100 square km. The images were produced by a global researcher who said the villages were constructed between May 2020 and November 2021. The Chinese villages built in the Bhutanese territory are very close to the Doklam Plateau near the Indian border. The Doklam plateau is the same spot where India and China had a faceoff in 2017. The 2-month standoff in 2017 happened over the Chinese construction of a road in Doklam near a trijunction border area.
